Polycystic ovary syndrome or PCOS is a common condition among women. It relates to hormonal imbalance during the reproductive age and is characterized by high androgens levels in the body. Apart from that insulin may also be linked to PCOS as researchers have also found that women with high insulin in their bodies tend to suffer from polycystic ovary syndrome.
When insulin levels are high in the body, ovaries produce more male hormones which becomes the major reason of PCOS. However, the exact cause of PCOS is still unknown, yet genetics is considered to be a crucial factor. Packed with fiber, flaxseed decreases androgen levels and cholesterol levels. Flaxseed slows down glucose metabolism and reduces inflammation, levels up blood pressure, and prevents the risk of chronic diseases. Simple, add 1-2 tablespoons of flaxseed to a glass of water and drink it regularly. Introduce flaxseed to your diet. Blend flaxseeds in smoothies, sprinkle it on your soups, salads, fruit bowls, etc.
Jeera (Cumin Seeds) Water
Jeera is loaded with antioxidants and decreases blood sugar levels. These antioxidants eliminate free radicals from the body and regulate body processes. Add ½ tablespoon of cumin powder to a cup of warm water and drink it. Repeat this procedure twice a week for great relief from PCOS.
Due to its anti-androgenic properties, spearmint tea effectively deals with PCOS and reduces free & total testosterone levels. Spearmint tea also increases luteinizing hormone and follicle-stimulating hormone levels which ease out the symptoms of PCOS. Boil a cup of water and add 1 tablespoon of dried spearmint tea to it. Allow it to simmer for 5-10 minutes. Strain the tea and drink it twice a day for few weeks.
Fenugreek is an excellent Ayurvedic remedy for PCOS as it balances hormones and reduces the effects of PCOS. Soak 2-3 tablespoons fenugreek for about 6-8 hours or overnight. Consume 1 tablespoon of soaked fenugreek with honey in the morning, empty stomach. Do this every day till you start to feel better.
The researchers of Columbia University have found that cinnamon can improve menstrual cycle and holds the potential of treating PCOS. Add 1 tablespoon of cinnamon powder to a glass of hot water and drink this. Consume it on a daily basis for a few months. Alternatively, you can also add cinnamon to your diet. Sprinkle cinnamon powder on your cereal, cheese, yogurt, peanut butter & jelly sandwich, oatmeal, fruit salad, etc.
Apple Cider Vinegar
ACV is an excellent home remedy that comes handy in treating various ailments and also serves ample health benefits. Apple cider vinegar controls blood sugar and prevents the body from producing too much insulin. Add 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar to a glass of water and drink it daily in the morning. Ensure that you drink it before meals. Repeat it till you start to feel better.
