Why you need a digital detox
Our lives are so heavily dependent on electronic devices and gadgets that we often forget about the real life and become bound by virtual life. Even most of the jobs today require spending hours in front of a screen. If you are like most people then you really need to take a weekend or a day off your gadgets for wellbeing, and here’s why:
1. Get to know your real life:
Once you take your eyes and mind away from that screen, you will get to know your life as it is. Most of the perceptions of the world today are framed by social media, and people often forget to look and know the real stuff. Once you give up, you will notice things you have been missing around all these years.
2. Better sleep:
It is true that exposure to screen or light (especially blue wavelength) interferes with our sleep cycle. Using cell phones or laptops late into the night not only delays the sleep, but it also degrades the quality of sleep- making it less refreshing and enjoyable. You really need a digital detox to reset your body clock and give some much needed rest to your body.
3. Get hold of your creative self:
All those idle hours spent scrolling up and browsing does not give enough room for creativity. You are constantly fed by updates and what is happening around in other’s lives and other unimportant stuff that you forget to give time to yourself. A digital detox will give you this much needed time, which you will better spend on some hobby or some creative thing that you like and which will give you much more satisfaction.
4. Social reconnection:
A digital detox will help you connect with your family and friends which you may have been missing for so long. And it’s about the real social connection and spending time together, and not just connecting online. Spending some time together with your loved ones, reviving memories, and planning stuff together will de-stress you and make you feel better.
5. Overall health:
People who are heavily dependent on digital world or social media tend to be more obese (due to less moving around), and have poor posture and eyesight. All of these things degrade your physical health day by day, and taking time off the digital world will help you focus on these important aspects of your health. Not only you will have more time to exercise or work on your posture, but your eyes will also get some much needed rest.
