Foods to eat before donating blood
- Eat low-fat meal as a high fat meal can obstruct the blood testing process. Eat the small piece of fruit, or a bowl of low-fat milk but nothing with too much fat.
- Eat foods that are rich in vitamin C as it helps your body to absorb iron. Vitamin C rich fruits are, orange, grape, guava, kiwi, red sweet pepper, green sweet pepper, strawberries, and cantaloupe.

- Prefer iron-containing food as iron carries oxygen to tissues and without iron, the body fails to produce or maintain healthy red blood cells. Foods like, spinach, fish, red meat, poultry, raisins, and beans etc.
- Eat folate-rich foods, as folate is used by our body to manufacture new red blood cells. Foods like liver, dried beans, asparagus, and green, leafy vegetables like spinach, kale, and collard greens.
- Riboflavin enriched foods like milk, cheese, eggs, nuts, broccoli, vitamin-fortified cereals, and yogurt. Riboflavin is an essential component to generate red blood cells. It helps body to turn carbohydrate into energy.
- Vitamin B-6 enriched foods such as potatoes, seeds, nuts, eggs, red meat, spinach, and bananas. Vitamin B-6 helps the boy to break down proteins as proteins are enriched in many nutrients that body need after donating blood.
