What is Scalp Folliculitis?
Scalp Folliculitis is a condition that causes hair fall due to infection of the scalp. It is mostly temporary but in some cases can cause a lot of damage to the hair and scalp, leaving bald patches.
What is Folliculitis?
It is an infection of the scalp that is caused due to the inflammation of hair follicles which results in itching and soreness. You can identify this infection as it looks like small acne spots with rings of inflammation around the hair follicle.
Causes and treatment
Scalp folliculitis is usually caused by bacteria and otherwise by yeast or mites. The infection causes inflammation and irritation which causing itching, pain and soreness of the scalp. This scalp infection results in a lot of hair loss and if not attended to, can damage the hair and scalp permanently.
If you think you have this infection, it is best to consult a dermatologist who will examine the scalp and provide treatment accordingly. Specific shampoos like antifungal agents or regular mild shampoos can be used to wash hair whenever desired to prevent irritation.
In case the infection is severe, the dermatologist may prescribe antibiotics or steroid lotions or creams to eliminate the infection.
It is best to get it treated early as it can affect the follicles anywhere in the body causing acne and itchy skin.
