A bounding pulse is a condition in which a person's heart beats harder and more vigorously. Not just the heartbeat feels stronger in the chest, but the pulse is felt stronger in the wrist and the neck too. Many people think that it is caused due to some underlying heart condition, but it is not the case always. There are various conditions which can cause a bounding pulse like:

Anxiety: Anxiety is one of the most common causes of a bounding pulse. Anxiety is the body’s natural response to stress and can sometimes lead to panic attacks. The bounding pulse due to anxiety is only temporary and subsides on its own in a few minutes.

Fever: Sometimes, fever is accompanied by chills and can also cause heart palpitations or bounding pulse.

Hypertension: High blood pressure, or hypertension, can also cause a bounding pulse frequently. One can have this condition for years without even noticing it. If you have recurrent phases of bounding pulse, it is advisable to visit a doctor and checked for the same.

Anemia: Anemia is a condition characterized by abnormally low levels of red blood cells in the body. These cells are responsible for carrying oxygen to various parts of the body. Anemia can also trigger a bounding pulse in some cases.

Hyperthyroidism: Hyperthyroidism is the over secretion of thyroid hormone which leads to a hormonal imbalance. And in cases of hormonal imbalance, pounding heart and palpitations are quite common.

Heart diseases: Heart diseases also cause palpitations. Though there are various factors which cause bounding pulse, heart diseases and conditions like clogging of arteries cannot be ruled out.

Drugs: Certain medications, stimulants or illegal drugs may also induce heart palpitations.

Besides, there are various conditions like allergic reactions, electrical faults in the heart, congestive heart failure, and shock which can cause bounding pulses.
