The period following C-section is a painful period for you due to physical exhaustion and pain and psychological stress. This is the time you need to eat healthy food regularly so that you can breastfeed the baby sufficiently without draining out your energy. After delivery, you need to take adequate rest to recover from this stressful period. Ideally, this means no housework and no stressful activities.

Here are some things you need to take care:

  • Once your catheter is removed, try to move around and take help from the hospital staff if required. This will speed up your recovery. Do it slowly, else you might feel dizzy and light headed.
  • Use the restroom as and when you feel your bladder is full and never hold urine for a long time as it might cause urinary infection and stress on the sutures. Walking to the loo will also help you to walk around and ease out your muscle spasm earlier.
  • When you start eating, don’t start eating on spicy and oily food. Stick to bland and staple food for the first 3 days following delivery.
  • Avoid lifting weights or bending down or any strenuous activity like climbing stairs etc or exercise related to your tummy for a minimum of 3 weeks to a maximum of 3 months and also wear an abdominal binder or belt to prevent an incisional hernia.
  • Sleep in a comfortable position.
  • Avoid constipation by keeping yourself hydrated well and being on a high fiber diet.
  • Breastfeeding for many reasons is good for your baby and speeds up your healing process. Never try to use formula feeds for the baby to avoid getting up in the night to feed the baby.
  • Avoid sexual activity for 3 months, else it might cause wound sepsis.
  • Never ignore symptoms like fever, headache, and nausea while your scar is still healing. As it could be the sign of infection.
  • Do not take any medication on your own.
  • Accept your scar and be proud of it.
  • Do not forget to have a lot of pillows around you. You need them to protect your incision area for any coughs, laughs, and sneezes.
