Other Breast Surgeries
Augmentation, Reconstruction and Reduction surgeries.
It is a surgical technique that uses breast implants or fat to:
- Increase the size of the breasts
- Restore breast volume or shape
- Improve the symmetry between breasts
A breast lift is recommended along with breast augmentation, to correct severely drooping breasts.
This surgery is generally done after a mastectomy or injury. Breast implants are added.
Over-large, heavy breasts can weigh you down emotionally, and physically, causing back and neck pain, skin irritation, posture problems, and even breathing difficulties. In addition, they may hamper participation in sports and other day-to-day activities. In such cases, breast reduction is recommended to change the size of the breasts, and the quality of life.
The surgery removes tissue and skin from the breasts to reshape and reduce. It also reduces the area of dark skin surrounding the areola. Usually, liposuction is combined with surgery. However, liposuction alone may suffice if most of the breast is comprised of fatty tissue and excess skin isn’t a problem.
Breast reduction surgery is done under general anaesthesia and takes 3 to 5 hours. An overnight stay is not usually recommended.
