A throat infection can be very problematic as the irritation and pain hinder your performance and ability to complete tasks. It could be due to congestion, tonsillitis, allergies or flu and is caused by a bacteria or virus. Here are some simple remedies that bring relief to the irritation and pain:
A remedy that dates back centuries, gargling with salt water has proven to be effective. Salt has anti-bacterial properties which eliminate the bacteria and neutralizes the acids that cause irritation and burning. Mix a little salt in a cup of warm water and gargle twice a day.
- Turmeric milk
A natural antibiotic, mixing a little turmeric to warm milk is a perfect drink to treat throat infections, cold and cough. It is also effective in reducing swelling and pain.
- Herbal tea
Make herbal tea using bits of ginger, cinnamon and licorice by adding them to hot water to extract flavor. Drink this tea 2-3 times a day.
A spoon of raw honey or squeeze a little ginger and lemon mixed with hot water to the honey and drink this decoction. Honey helps in treating cough, moistens the throat and reduces inflammation and swelling.
Might sound repulsive but sucking on a garlic clove can be very effective in treating sore throat problems. This herb has anti-bacterial properties which eliminate bacteria and the allicin present in it fights infections.
- Black pepper
Works great for a dry cough and sore throat, you can add some black pepper to your saltwater for gargling or add some of it to your favorite homemade soup.
