MASTERING THE TECHNIQUE OF TRATAK KRIYA
Trataka is a form of meditation that involves focusing on a single point. In this method, you sit down with your back erect and focus on a point or object kept in front of you.
The object can be a point on a wall or a black point on a white paper, white on a black or in advanced practice a candle. The object should be placed about 2.5 feet away from you and a little below your line of sight around the height of your chest. If you are using a candle, the flame should be steady and at the right position otherwise it will cause tension and burning sensation in the eyes.
Once you’ve placed the object and are comfortable, close your eyes and relax. Now, open your eyes and focus on the object, in case of the candle focus on the brightest point. Then, close your eyes again and if the image appears within then gently pay attention to it without disturbing till it fades away. You can start with focusing with open eyes for about 15 seconds and slowly build it to 1 minute and focus on the inner image for about 1-4 minutes nothing more.
