Let Your Skin Look RADIANT Even When It’s Raining
Every changing season brings with it certain pros and cons, dos and don’ts in terms of the perfect skincare routine. The monsoon in India (which has well arrived now) can wreak havoc on your skin due to the humidity and stickiness it is accompanied by. Besides, rains bring with them a variety of germs that can leave your skin vulnerable to disease and infections. It’s no wonder then that pimples, eczema1 rashes, dryness, excessive oiliness, and bumps are some common nuisances during the rains, depending on your skin type. Here are 5 must-dos to ensure that your skin looks radiant, soft, healthy and flawless from inside out even as it pours outside- no matter what kind of complexion you have.
- Get High on Hydration
Dry Skin Type
Rainwater can leave your skin feeling even further dry and damaged. Thus it is important to keep yourself hydrated by drinking at least 8 glasses of water daily. Moreover, ensure that you keep your face squeaky clean by using a mild cleanser at least twice a day. Moisturize your skin with a light lotion or cream that keeps it soft and supple without adding to the stickiness or grime.
Oily Skin Type
The monsoon season further exacerbates oily skin by inducing the sebaceous glands (oil secreting glands) to produce excess oil. The oil and sweat caused due to humidity combine to trap bacteria and dirt that lead to pimples, whiteheads, rashes, acne, blackheads, etc. So people with oil-prone skin should wash their faces with a gentle oil-controlling face wash 3-4 times a day depending on their exposure to the outside environment. For moisturizing your skin, use an extremely light gel-based moisturizer instead of a creamy one that feels too heavy on the skin.
Normal Skin Type
You lucky lot can just follow standard skincare practices like drinking enough water, and the general cleansing, toning, and moisturizing routine.
- Tone it up
Whilst the classic skincare routine is cleansing, toning, and moisturizing- a lot of us are guilty of skipping the second step as we fail to realize its importance- Especially for those with oily, acne-prone skin. Toning is essential for unclogging pores by eradicating the oil, dirt, and grime that is sometimes out of reach of the cleanser. Use an alcohol-free toner so that your skin’s natural moisture isn’t stripped off along with the unwanted elements.
- Scrub Away (Gently)
Regular exfoliation is vital for keeping your skin healthy and youthful looking. It helps to unclog pores and remove dead skin cells, creating scope for new skin cell generation. Use one that is gentle yet thorough at least once a day. You can also try a homemade scrub made of oats and milk or sandalwood powder, fuller’s earth and orange peel. Gently massage the paste into your skin with dry and clean fingers and leave on for a few minutes before rinsing.
This is an important step of any skin care routine recommended for all skin types. Regular scrubbing helps to detox your skin and prevents the outbreak of any kind of skin infections or rash that is common during the rainy season.
- Dodge Dampness
Dampness is extremely harmful for your skin during the monsoons. It is the harbinger of bacterial infections or any kind of skin allergic reactions. People with oily and sensitive skin especially should take extra precaution to prevent any germ buildup on the skin. Try not to get wet in the rain. However, if you do then take a shower immediately on returning home or try to get a change of dry clothes. Do not let the water dry on your body. Also, avoid swimming in an outdoor pool while it is raining or has rained recently, at all costs.
- Stay Sunscreen Safe
Last but not the least, just because the sun seems hidden amidst the clouds and rain, doesn’t mean you’re safe from its harmful rays. So always ensure you protect your skin from sun-damage, wrinkles and tanning with a strong, waterproof, gel-based sunscreen of at least SPF 30 or stronger.
With these 5 tips, you can ensure that your monsoon skincare goals are met to perfection and you step out looking fresh, glowing and healthy each time come rain or storm.
Also, bacterial and fungal infections are found to occur with increasing frequency during the rainy season. Refrain from self-treatment with over the counter steroid creams and consult a doctor without delay.
