HOW TO BEAT JET LAG?

Jet lag is a condition that is caused when your body’s natural clock or circadian rhythm is disturbed due to travelling in different time zones. Jet lag can really interfere with your body’s health and sleep cycle if you travel on a regular basis, making it difficult for you to perform regular tasks.
Let’s look at some ways you can prevent jet lag to ensure normal bodily function.
- TRY TO GET SOME SLEEP
Try to sleep on the plane if you are travelling. Use earphones and eye masks to help your sleep.
- SELECT FLIGHT TIMES STRATEGICALLY
Pick a flight that allows you to arrive early in the morning so that you can sleep once you reach your destination.
- POWER NAP
Take a power nap of around 20 to 30 minutes and not more than that so that you can sleep later in the night.
- DON’T DRINK
Avoid alcohol the day before and on the day of your flight. Alcohol intervenes with your natural sleep cycle.
- NO SLEEPING PILLS
Don’t use sleeping pills for sleep as it will leave you feeling fuzzy when you land. If you want to sleep, do it the natural way.
- SAY NO TO COFFEE
Apart from alcohol, caffeine also affects the ability to sleep and increases jet lag recovery time.
- KEEP MOVING
After a flight, keep moving as much as possible to keep the blood flowing and enhance circulation.
- EAT RIGHT
Start eating three meals a day in sync with the new time zone.
- GET SOME EXERCISE
Do some exercise to boost your endorphin level, especially for long haul flights.
- STAY HYDRATED
Drink enough water even if you don’t feel thirsty to stay hydrated and have enough energy.
