Not answering the call of nature may result in chronic constipation which leads to overworked kidneys. Constipation is an incredibly common problem. Constipation can be either acute (short duration) or chronic (long duration). All of us, at one time or the other, have suffered from the occasional bout of constipation. It may be caused by a sudden change in diet, pregnancy, travel, or stress. Functional constipation is a condition in which no anatomical cause is found. It can last from months to years. Symptoms include hard faeces, difficulty having a bowel movement, straining when passing a stool, the sensation of fullness after a bowel movement, intestinal pain, and discomfort.

What is Constipation?

Constipation is a condition wherein you have trouble with excreting your faeces. You are said to have constipation if you had bowel movements less than three times in a week. Besides the inconsistent or absent bowel movements, a person with constipation also experiences symptoms such as discomfort during faecal excretion, bloating in the abdomen and painful passage of stool as it is hard and dry making it difficult to pass.

It may be caused by not answering the urge to go, lack of exercise, or insufficient fibre and liquid in the diet.

It becomes difficult to ensure Bowel movement as it is painful. The affected person may feel uncomfortable, sluggish and bloated.

Spastic constipation, also known as irritable bowel syndrome, or IBS, is an irritation of the intestine caused by high levels of stress. This condition is characterized by symptoms such as recurrent abdominal pain along with diarrhoea alternating with constipation. Constipation can also be organic due to a physical change in an organ. Organic constipation is caused by an obstruction to the passage of stools. It may result from scar tissues, inflammatory conditions, tumours, or cancer of the bowels. Homoeopathic medicines for constipation are extremely effective in treating constipation in persons of all age groups. In addition to that, draw a bath in which two tablespoons of baking soda is added to the warm bathwater. Let your child relax in this bath. Apply a warm, moist cloth on the anus.
