Toothaches are an issue that everyone faces at some point. The pain could arise because of consumption of something sweet or anything too hot or too cold. Constant pain could also be a sign of a cavity or gum disease.
Toothaches can be quite painful, sometimes increases if pressure is applied and may cause swelling too. It can cause difficulty eating as well. If the ache is too much or lasts for more than a couple of days, it is advisable to visit a dentist to check for cavities or any other issues.
Clove is a common household spice which can help relieve toothache. The primary component of this spice is Eugenol which is a natural anaesthetic. Place a clove on the aching part and chew a little to release the oils or if you have clove oil pour a few drops on a cotton ball and place it on the tooth.
Dissolve a spoon of salt in boiling water and this makes a perfect pain relieving mouthwash. Swish it in your mouth for about a minute before you spit it out. This helps get rid of debris and reduces swelling by cleansing the area and gets rid of the fluid that causes the swelling.
Adding peppermint leaves to tea prep or having black tea helps in numbing pain and reducing swelling. Placing a warm tea bag against the area that hurts can bring temporary relief.
Placing ice packs or ice covered in a cloth on the area of the cheek that hurts or to the aching tooth helps in numbing the nerves and brings relief from the pain.

Using a soft bristled tooth brush and switching to a sensitive toothpaste can bring a lot of relief by preventing shrinking of gums and exposing the enamel.
Make a garlic paste and apply it to the affected area or you can chew a garlic clove and this not only helps relieve pain but, it’s medicinal properties also kills the bacteria that causes dental plaque.
If the problem persists for over 2-3 days, it is advisable that you visit a doctor and get checked.
