High and Low Blood Pressure
Blood pressure is basically the force with which the heart pumps blood, i.e. the pressure exerted on the blood vessels by the heart during circulation.
Blood pressure is defined by two numbers called the diastolic and systolic. The top number is the systolic-the highest pressure when the heart pumps blood, and the bottom number is your diastolic-the lowest pressure during the relaxation period between heartbeats.
Ideal/healthy blood pressure range is between 90/60 and 120/80
If your top number is 140 or more OR your bottom number is 90 or more, you have high BP or hypertension.
If your top number is 90 or less OR your bottom number is 60 or less, you have low BP or hypotension.
High Blood Pressure
Constantly high readings for over 2 weeks means you have high BP. There are a few factors that contribute towards high BP:
- Excessive salt consumption
- Lack of fruit and vegetable intake
- Sedentary lifestyle and lack of exercise
- Obesity and overweight
- Regular and excessive consumption of alcohol
- Age and family history of BP
High BP has a huge impact on your health as:

Low Blood Pressure
Some have naturally low levels while others acquire it over time. There is no known particular cause behind low BP.
There is no significant impact of this condition on your health but constantly low levels of BP causes fatigue, fainting, makes you excessively feeble and tired.
Switching to a healthy lifestyle and incorporating a high nutrition diet with regular exercise and/or yoga can help maintain ideal blood pressure levels for leading a problem free life.
