FOODS THAT ARE RICH IN PROBIOTICS
You may have heard of the famous “Probiotic” diet, but do you know what exactly Probiotics are? They are good bacteria that line the gut and are responsible for nutrient absorption and support the immune system.
Most people get their probiotics from supplements but you can also avail the goodness of probiotics from certain foods that are prepared using bacterial fermentation.

It is one of the most popular probiotic food. Live cultured yogurt or Greek yogurt, made from the milk of cows, goats or sheep ranks at the top among all probiotic foods. It is unpasteurised and comes from grass fed animals.
A fermented dairy product, it is a unique combination of goat’s milk and kefir grains. It is rich in lactobacilli, bifidus bacteria and antioxidants.
Rich in healthy live cultures, sauerkraut is made from fermented vegetables. It is rich in Vitamins A, B, C and K and may also help manage allergy symptoms.

Miso is an important component of most traditional Japanese medications and used in cooking to regulate digestion. It is prepared from fermented rye, beans, rice or barley. It is extremely rich in nutrients, neutralises the effects of environmental pollution, alkalinizes the body and prevents the effects of carcinogens in the system.
In the US, pickle refers to cucumbers that have been pickled in a solution of salt and water and left to be fermented. However, most vegetables can be pickled but the ones made with vinegar do not contain live probiotics.

An extremely spicy and sour fermented cabbage, it is a typical dish served alongside meals in Korea and Japan. It is a great source of Vitamin B, C, beta carotene, calcium, iron, potassium and dietary fiber.
