Focus better this exam season
Exam time is a roller coaster ride with so much to study and remember in such little time. Concentrating can be tough especially when the subjects are not your favourite but it is however inevitable and important to get it over with. Try these simple tips to help focus and score better in your upcoming exams!
- LOCATION: Each person has their own comfort zone where they feel they can study their best. Pick a place that suits you best, you can even experiment and find out where you are most productive.
- MATERIALS: Pick up everything you need pencils, pens, notes, text books and other stationary and even snacks water you will need to avoid moving out of your study zone. This will reduce wastage of time and will let you concentrate for longer.
- NEATNESS: Your study table should be neat and organised. Remove anything that you will not be using as anything that is not related will always be a potential distraction.
- SAY NO TO GADGETS: Yes, this one is inevitable. You will have to put away all you electronic gadgets like your phones and ipods when you sit to study as they are the biggest source of distraction.
- TIMETABLE: Prepare a routine that you know will suit you best and stick to it. Sticking to a routine will help you manage time and focus better. The times where you are most energetic and focused, try to focus on harder subjects.
- MAKE NOTES WHEN YOU WANDER: Each time your head diverts, make note of it. This way you become more aware when your mind is not focused which will help you work on it.
- STUDY METHODS: Find a method that is suitable for you be it drawings, notes or flow charts, whatever you think keeps you focused and helps you remember the topics at hand better.
- GIVE YOURSELF TIME TO WORRY: Yes, you read that right. Everyone has worries and stress around exam time and that in only natural. So, give yourself time to just think about all that stress and vent it out. This actually helps you focus better later as you don’t waste time during study thinking about worrying factors.
- SET GOALS: Set achievable goals for yourself like tell yourself you will finish a set of topics within a particular timeframe. This way you will finish topics on time and you can even reward yourself each time you complete a section successfully.
- TAKE BREAKS: Studying continuously for long hours isn’t very beneficial. Instead sit for an hour followed by a 10 minute break. This lets your mind relax a little which makes you more productive.
