Benefits of Including Hot Sauce in your Diet
Hot sauce is made up of various types of chillies and peppers like habanero and tabasco besides many others. The active ingredient in chillies which makes it hot is called capsaicin which also has surprisingly many health benefits. Here is what hot sauce in your diet can do for you:
Prevention of diabetes:
Studies have shown that a diet which includes capsaicin helps control insulin levels after the diet as compared to eating non spicy food. This is even more true for overweight people and thus including hot sauce in your diet can help you manage diabetes and keep your sugar levels in check.
Rich in antioxidants:
Antioxidants help manage free radicals in the body and reduce the risk of various inflammatory diseases. Thus it significantly reduces the chances of various cardiovascular diseases. Hot sauces are also usually rich in vitamin C and help fight ageing by delaying cell damage.
The capsaicin has a negative effect on cancer cells and makes them kill themselves (apoptosis). Especially chile pepper has shown magical properties when it comes to fighting cancer. So do not forget to include moderate amounts of hot chilli sauce in your diet.
Hot sauce remains in your digestive tract for hours and boosts your metabolism. It also reduces levels of ghrelin, a hormone that is responsible for causing or stimulating hunger. Therefore, by including hot sauce in your diet, you will be taking far lower calories than you normally would resulting in weight loss and prevention of obesity.
Capsaicin has proven to release more endorphins in the body which elevated the mood. Some people have even made it a hobby to eat hot sauce just to get that endorphin kick. Feeling low or depressed? Eat some food with lots of hot sauce in it and feel elevated.
Eating anything in excess is bad, and so is with hot sauces. They typically contain vinegar which is an acidifying agent and can lead to diseases like acidosis. Hot sauces also contain salt which should not be consumed in excess either. Agreed that hot sauces have many benefits, but consume it in moderation
