BABY COLIC: IS YOUR BABY CONSTANTLY CRYING?
Colic is a condition that occurs in babies from around 2 weeks and usually goes away after 3-4 months. A colic baby is basically cranky very often and cries for more than 3-4 hours every day despite proper feeding.
What causes baby colic?
Although there is no particular reason for a baby to develop colic, there are a couple of factors that could possibly trigger it.
- Gas troubles
- Hormonal imbalances can cause pain or mood swings
- Oversensitivity towards light or noise
- Developing digestive system can cause spasms or stomach pain
- Nervous system development
- Milk Intolerance
If your baby is increasingly restless and moody then it is best to consult your doctor to make sure it isn’t an infection, stomach problems or any other internal issue.
How to treat colic?
A Colic baby could be quite challenging as a moody baby can stress you out both mentally and physically. There is no treatment or cure per say as it is just a temporary condition which will automatically reduce and go away in 3-4 months on its own as it is just a condition during the developing stages.
Just try different things and figure out what works to calm down your baby. Don’t fall prey to any kind of medication or home treatment that claim to cure colic. Some things can help ease baby colic:
- Giving a nice warm bath
- A belly rub or keeping a warm bottle near his stomach
- Taking him for a walk
- Keep him in your arms and rock him slowly
- Give him a pacifier
If your baby’s mood becomes increasingly worrying the best thing to do is meet your paediatrician. Baby colic is not a disease and there is no difference between colic and non-colic babies.
