ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) is a brain disorder wherein the child is overly active, has difficulty in paying attention and is generally difficult of control. Diagnosing ADHD is extremely difficult since even healthy kids behave in such a manner.
Depending on which symptoms, there are three subtypes of ADHD:
- Combination of inattentive and hyperactive
Symptoms of ADHD
- Fearless (no understanding of safety)
- Impulsive behavior
- Not able to hop on one foot by age 4
- Getting close to strangers quickly
Is it a disability?
A disability is something that prevents you from doing something. Therefore, you cannot categories ADHD as a disability.
ADHD is a neurobiological disorder that if left untreated (certain lifestyle and diet changes) emerges into the adulthood, posing lifelong challenges (not disability). Kids with ADHD have co-occurring problems like school failure, relationship problems, and language grasping difficulties which can affect their social life, emotions, and behavior.
Therefore, you need to be a little observant of the behavior of your toddler and take action if you notice any behavioral issues.
