If you are a “cat-mother,” you know the importance of your cat’s health and comfort to you. Providing your cat with the utmost comfort not just makes your cat happy but you too. But do you know everything your kitty cat wants and likes? Well, here are a few things that you should know about your kitty cat. Give it a read!
Why does my cat like boxes?
Don’t worry if your cat spends more time inside boxes that your arms. This is completely natural. Even science has an answer to this. According to science, cats love boxes because they love staying warm. Well, yes that answer was that simple.
The average body temperature of a cat is around 100.5 to 102.5 degrees (higher than humans) that is why they seek comfort in areas with a temperature of about 86 to 97 degrees whereas the average room temperature is about 72 degrees.
A study published in the Applied Animal Behaviour Science also suggested that living in the boxes reduces a cat's stress levels.
Therefore, if you're adopting a new cat or traveling with your cat carry his/her favorite boxes/box along with you. This way your cat would feel comfortable and calm.
Is it important to get a litter box for my cat?
Well, yes. This is important especially for your indoor pet. Cats are very clean animals, and their sense of smell is a hundred times more than human. They don’t like littering everywhere and prefer to stay clean. Therefore, if you are a cat owner remember to clean your cat’s litter box often because like humans they too hate walking around in their filth.
When choosing a litter box consider the following:
- Go for a self-cleaning litter box. These have an automated system that makes sudden movements or noises for disturbing your cat so that its refrains your pet from using it unless cleaned.
- Try the flushable cat litter box. It comes with an installed system to flush down the litter.
- Choose the open or closed litter box depending on your pet’s preferences when some of the cats love the warmth of a closed box, while others feel oppressed or vulnerable in it. Therefore choose wisely!
Why doesn’t my cat dislike water?
Cats are a desert species. They have evolved in dry climates as per the history that is why water isn’t a big part of their life. You must have seen cats swimming in the pool and wondered why your cat is behaving in such a way. Well, these cats have been trained gradually over time to believe that being around water is not a scary experience.
Do cats like to be hugged?
Well yes! Your pet cat or domestic cat love being hugged. They are very affectionate living beings and love to lay on laps, nuzzle into necks and yes, hug.
