Some Tips for the Parents: To have better food intake by their children.
To feed a child is an art.
Create interest in the child for eating; never force food.
Respect child’s choice for food or appetite.
Home environment should be pleasant for the entire family to have the meal together.
If possible the father should have at least one meal with the children, i.e. the family; this creates a good bond between the families and indirectly children copy their father.
Avoid temptations, nagging humiliation and comparison with other kids for eating.
Have positive thoughts and discussions on food.
Teach and encourage children to share food with other children. If neighbours, friends offer the food to the children let them have it, do not refuse.
Keep food/snacks handy within easy reach of children, so that they can have it while playing or as they wish.
No article of a food is must for any child. Some children like milk, others do not; some children are fond of chappati, whereas others are fond of rice; some children like egg or non veg food whereas other kids hate them. Vegetables particularly green leafy, and fruits are not popular with all children. Even siblings from the same family may have opposite likes and dislikes for food, yet all the children need to have proper and balanced food within their likes and dislikes.
There is absolutely no need for spending heavily on “prestigious foods”, as same nutrition is available from the family foods for the children, but the family needs to know about it.
