There are three basic rules to healthy eating:
Food prepared from healthy ingredients: This is initial and most important step. Choice of ingredients not only is important from the nutrition point of view but also ensures that one does not have any side-effect of consuming them. Always opt for fresh and seasonal produce which is free from chemicals, include vegetables of all colors to reap the maximum nutritional benefit. Avoid canned and preserved ones since they are full of artificial flavors, colors and preservatives.
Process of Food preparation: Opt for steaming, baking or shallow frying to retain maximum nutrients. Deep frying, boiling and leaching leads to loss of heat sensitive vitamins and minerals and are of no significance to health.
Eat what suites your palate and body: Always eat those food which you have been having from your childhood. Food which our grandmothers used to prepare. Food that is local to your region. The reason being our body is accustomed to certain type of food and any change would lead to problems like allergies or gastritis. For example, a person accustomed to having slices of carrot, onion, cucumber for salad need not shift to cherry tomatoes/zucchini/olives for salad just because they have become popular. Since our regional vegetables produce provides good amount nutrients which are required by our body.
