5 Signs you have fluorosis
What Is Fluorosis?
Dental fluorosis is the name for a mottling condition of the teeth, usually whitish in color, caused by excessive amounts of fluoride becoming incorporated into the outer enamel layer of a tooth. The damage occurs as the enamel is developing in the young child.
Tiny white spots on teeth
The disease varies from very-mild, mild, moderate to severe .
in its mildest form, Chalky white spots appear such as in the one described in the image.
Mottling of enamel
This may be confused with enamel hypoplasia, or amelogenesis defects. Also because the tooth enamel formation is affected enamel may appear opaque white to brownish in severe cases
Pitting of enamel
In its severe forms the enamel appears as pits on the surface of enamel
Brownish discolouration of teeth
It is important that this is differentiated from tetracycline staining , and caries caused by bacteria
As evidence of having fluorosis etiology is when people belong to those areas where the fluoride content in drinking water is too high.
Severe surface irregularities
Apart from causing esthetic problems these cause plaque accumulation and create further dental problems.
TRETMENT OF FLUOROSIS affected teeth – veneers/ Dental zirconia crowns/ composite restoration to emmulate natural tooth and recreate a healthy smile.
